An 'urgent' review announced into foreign interference in British politics.
UK party funding has been in the news recently, with this story about a donation by German bank Berenberg to the Conservatives, and one of £9mn to Reform UK from aviation entrepreneur, Christopher Harborne. The Berenberg donation fell foul of the rules governing donations and had to be returned, as it came from a company registered outside the UK.
Reform UK is now the largest party in the country by membership after Labour haemorrhaged 100,000 members in the wake of last year’s General Election. Labour membership has fallen below 250,000, meaning one person has quit the party every seven minutes since the 2024 election, according to a report in the Times.
