William Hampton, whose Huntsville Revisited Museum @huntsvillerevisited preserves and shares the often overlooked history of the city and its African American community, shared the history of Frank and Ottawa (O.W.) Gurley. When Greenwood went up in flames during the Tulsa Race Massacre, Ottawa and Emma Gurley were swept into a National Guard internment camp. Carrying the weight of loss and survival, the couple soon set their sights westward, beginning a new chapter in Los Angeles, California. #
